The Sex Factor is Co-Founded by Miriam Kenrick and Sarah Sowerby. Sarah and Miriam have worked together professionally for many years. They are also Co-Founders of Women in Pharma, an organisation they set up in 2022 to INSPIRE and EMPOWER the extraordinary women who work in life sciences to SHAKE the future of women’s health.
SHAKING the future of women’s health all started when Miriam read Invisible Women. Having worked in healthcare marketing and communications for many years either Sarah nor Miriam could believe the chapters on health. ‘How did we not know this?’ But, as they have learned more about data bias and the women’s health gap they have realised that a failure to disaggregate scientific data affects males and females. Their first white paper, Beyond Bikini Medicine, published in 2024 explored the problem of the women’s health gap. This campaign was about recognising that women’s health is NOT just about the bits of a woman’s body that sit behind a bikini. Women’s health is their whole body.
Having been immersed in the women’s health gap for a couple of years, it became apparent that it is impossible to solve the women’s health gap, without reinventing medicine for all. Only by systematically looking at diseases and treatments through a sex-based lens will we be able to make health better for males and females. That is why The Sex Factor is here to help everyone.
Here is what we say about each other.
