What is 'The Sex Factor?'
'The Sex Factor' is a campaign to reinvent medicine based on biological sex
Co-Founded by Miriam Kenrick and Sarah Sowerby, both with longstanding careers in the pharmaceutical industry, our invitation TO YOU is to be curious enough to look at medicine through the lens of biological sex.
We know that extraordinary people join this innovative industry to make their positive difference. Over our careers we have seen whole areas of medicine transformed, from HIV to cancer, from immunological disorders to rare diseases, and most recently obesity and metabolic diseases.
Our White Paper, published in July 2026, 'The Sex Factor: Precision Medicine's Missing Variable' is predominantly written for pharma and life sciences, with practical recommendations for changemakers and leaders, specific to medicines and medical devices.
But this challenge is too big for any one sector, or organisation, to solve alone. Our vision is to galvanise stakeholders across EVERY sector, including the media, who can shine a light on this important opportunity to reinvent medicine based on biological sex and lay the right foundations for precision medicine.
Together, we can all leave health and medicine in a better state for future generations.

How you can play your part
- 1Read the white paper and share the link with your colleagues.
- 2Connect us to Medical and Portfolio Leads in pharma companies who want to lead the way and will be open in doing a pilot with us. We are looking for three pioneering companies who recognise the first mover advantage.
- 3Take this conversation into rooms we can't get into yet. We can supply you with a briefing deck you can use to upskill yourself and tell a powerful story. Email us for more: hello@sexfactor.science.
- 4Be an amplifier. You journalists, podcasters, LinkedIn voices, social media influencers who can put this in front of millions of people. Please do it. The menopause conversation changed because it got loud. This needs to get loud too.
- 5And we need the activators. The people who are going to tell this story at dinner tables and board meetings and school gates until it is impossible to ignore. Whatever your role: there is a place for you in this. Whatever your role: there is a place for you in this.
OUR WHITE PAPER EXPLORES:
- Why medicine has overlooked biological sex
- The science behind our different operating systems
- Why current approaches miss what matters
- Case studies from cardiology, oncology and gastroenterology
- Four practical actions to drive change now
"I have been seeing sex differences in my Inflammatory Bowel Disease patients for years and been exploring the reasons why. It felt hard to make a real impact doing this alone, but now we are coming together across different specialities with the help of 'The Sex Factor' and this excellent white paper I feel optimistic that we can drive the changes needed for everyone's health."
"How dare we talk excitedly about precision medicine, when our industry doesn't even consider biological sex in its current data? This paper calls out one of healthcare's biggest blind spots, and reminds us that it's not just a compliance burden but the next frontier of better medicine. Read it!"
